Dr. Rashad Hammour is a hospitalist and core teaching faculty member for both the Internal Medicine and Family Medicine Residency Programs at Northwest Health Porter. He also serves as the Inpatient Medicine Site Director for the Family Medicine Residency and is an active member of several hospital committees, including the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC), Code Blue Committee, and EMR Committee. In these roles, he contributes significantly to resident training, curriculum development, and hospital-wide quality and safety initiatives.
Born and raised in Damascus, Syria, Dr. Hammour completed his Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences at the American University of Beirut, followed by his Doctor of Medicine at Trinity School of Medicine. He completed his three-year Internal Medicine residency at Loyola University Medical Center — Mercy Hospital Chicago. After graduation, he pursued an additional year of leadership training, serving as Chief Resident at West Suburban Medical Center, where he supervised residents, led academic activities, and supported program operations.
Dr. Hammour practices hospital medicine across multiple health systems in Indiana and Illinois, providing care in both community and academic settings. Since joining Northwest Health Porter in 2022, he has become a highly valued educator known for his practical, evidence-based teaching style, focus on clinical reasoning, and dedication to resident mentorship. His contributions have been recognized through several honors, including the Leadership Excellence Award (2025), Care Experience Excellence Award (2024), Length of Stay Champion Award (2024), and Best Inpatient Teaching Faculty distinctions from the residency program.
Outside the hospital, Dr. Hammour enjoys spending quality time with his wife and three daughters. He also has a passion for cooking and loves preparing meals inspired by his Syrian heritage.
