Dear Candidate,
Welcome to the Northwest Health Family Medicine Residency program in Valparaiso, Indiana and thank you for your interest in our program! I have been involved in medical education for nearly 20 years and have been working as a Program Director for the past twelve. Medical education is a passion of mine, and I have personally seen how choosing the right residency program affects the residents, the preceptors, and the communities they serve.
Although our focus is on outpatient family medicine, you will have ample experiences in both the outpatient and inpatient settings. We provide a comprehensive three-year curriculum that will ensure you have the skills needed to run a successful practice. We do this while caring for the needs of the underserved community of Northwest Indiana.
Our mission is to produce well rounded, knowledgeable, and compassionate family medicine physicians who will become leaders, mentors, and highly qualified physicians in their community. Throughout your residency, you will be working with many adept and mission-oriented faculty who will guide you throughout your journey.
How we seek to achieve this mission is by providing residents with engaging and passionate preceptors that will provide an ambulatory-focused education with an inpatient experience that demonstrates excellence through patient-centered, team-based approach to healthcare in all settings. We aim to cultivate in each resident the skills required to improve population health while managing the individual needs of each patient served and role model and teach how to identify and overcome barriers through innovation and creativity, while balancing a servant leadership and community advocate mindset with an awareness of well-being, burnout, and self-care. We look forward to welcoming our first residency class that will create the foundation for the future of our program.
