We strive to serve our patients with professionalism and humility. We aspire to lead care delivery with service in mind, always accountable to others while being respectful of our teammates, patients, and community.

Academics

The desired educational impact is graduating physicians who provide coordinated, comprehensive, and accessible evidence-based care while consistently striving to improve the health care outcomes of their patients and their community.

Northwest Health consists of three hospitals, with Northwest Health – Porter acting as primary inpatient training location for our residency program. Northwest Health – Porter is a 301-bed acute care hospital located in Valparaiso, Indiana with 965 physicians on medical staff across our inpatient and ambulatory sites. Services include the breadth of Family Medicine as well as an inpatient rehabilitation unit, maternity services and L&D unit, newborn well and sick baby nurseries, neonatal intensive care unit, and a busy emergency medicine department.

Residents training at this participating site will be integrated into our team-oriented working environment with the full support of hospital administration, the medical staff, the program’s faculty and staff, and all other valuable members of the patient care team. HealthLinc – Valparaiso provides onsite behavioral health, dental, optometry, pharmacy, and podiatry services. With a core goal of improving our community’s healthcare outcomes, HealthLinc – Valparaiso provides outreach via regional partnerships, sponsoring and organizing community health and wellness events, and addresses the opioid crisis with a Mobile Integrated Response Team (MIRT).

Residents will be supervised while providing patient care by board-certified family medicine physicians, one of whom will act as their faculty advisor across the duration of their training.
